Arrival in Turkey

Unfortunately my iPad battery is near death and I don't have a Turkish power adapter yet. so this will have to be brief.

After 18 hours of travel time (13 flight, 5 layover) I finally arrived in Istanbul. And it is incredible. This morning I awoke to the sound of Adhan, the Islamic call to prayer, pouring through my window at 6am. I am not a morning person but I found the song to be hauntingly beautiful and melodic. So melodic in fact that it lulled me back to sleep!

Later in the day I was escorted across the city by a kind woman. She apparently noticed how confused I was when buying a transit token and took it upon herself to be my personal guide for the next hour. Now that's Turkish hospitality! The best part was that she didn't speak English, so we communicated through body language nearly the entire time.

I now find myself staying the night in Eskisehir, between Istanbul and Ankara. I missed my connection for Ankara due to a late train arrival. Tomorrow I travel to Ankara and finally to Cappadocia. Cheers!

  1. YAY for sign language communication! I just attempted to flush out my french with a couple staying at the bed and breakfast here and completely failed. I ended up being a quarter sign language/ a quarter italian/ a quarter french/ and a quarter english. lol. so glad you made it safely, can't wait to talk to you. :)
